High Desert West > In the high desert of the Great Basin, very little water exists and the few wetland areas like this one in Spring Valley are important stopovers for migrating waterfowl. It is one of the areas threatened by a proposed pipeline project to carry water to sprawling Las Vegas more than 200 miles away.
